What are You Fasting and Praying for?

"Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward. Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:(Isaiah 58:6-10 KJV)

What is Fasting?

For Christians [Born-again believers] fasting is a method used to implore God for one's need of strength to endure times of testing, strength to do His will, to show one's hunger for God, and, for some, a need for deliverance. Fasting is also a means of showing humility before God. We can do nothing apart from Him (John 15:5 KJV).

So, What is it that You are Fasting and Praying for?

First let me say that fasting and prayer is between you and God. However, God has a grievance with those who fast and pray for self centered reasons. He is not happy with those who fast and pray just to continue to do as they please. Those who are not helping anyone but themselves. Those who worship with false motives not considering God's righteousness. God said, "I desire faithful love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God instead of entirely burned offerings (Hosea 6:6). Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments (John 14:15). He wants us to do His will.

What is the Will of God?

"Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house–when you see the naked, that you cover him, and that you hide not yourself from [the needs of] your own flesh and blood? (Isaiah 58:7 AMPC). Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments (John 14:15 CEB) He said that the greatest command in the law is “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands. (Matthew 22:37-40 CEB).

We need God in order to spread love and do what He asks of us. He commands us to reach out to others in love. We also need Him in order to spread His Gospel. He will strengthen us when we come to Him with right intentions. Its all to praise and glorify God. He is the One Who hears and answers our prayers. Yes! Receive help for yourself but when God blesses you because He loves you, you must bless others in like manner. “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16 AMP)
