The Gifts That God Gave You Will Not Save You

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

Jesus is the Only Gift (Singular) that Saves

'God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life (John 3:16). Jesus is the only way to be reconciled to God to eternal life in heaven (John 14:6). Don't let your gift become your idol. In the end, all of the spiritual gifts, God gives you, will not save you.

God's Gifts

Accepting Jesus as our Lord, and Savior, comes with different gifts. Every believer will receive spiritual gifts; some more, some less. Those gifts include, but are not limited to -Words of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Faith, Gifts of Healing, Working of Miracles, Prophecy, Discerning of Spirits, Different kinds of Tongues, Interpretation of (different) Tongues...'As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:(1 Peter 4:10). And, 'Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them [accordingly]: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness (Romans 12:6-8). Only remember the gifts, that God gives you, will not save you.

Don't Put Your Faith in The Gift, But in The Gift Giver

"No one who is tested should say, “God is tempting me!” This is because God is not tempted by any form of evil, nor does he tempt anyone. Everyone is tempted by their own cravings; they are lured away and enticed by them. Once those cravings conceive, they give birth to sin; and when sin grows up, it gives birth to death. Don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good gift, every perfect gift, comes from above. These gifts come down from the Father, the creator of the heavenly lights, in whose character there is no change at all. He chose to give us birth by his true word, and here is the result: we are like the first crop from the harvest of everything he created (James 1:13-18).

The Gifts God Gave you will not Save You

The gifts God gave you will not save you. 'For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it [Grace] is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). God's spiritual gifts are to be used for His purpose, not ours. We are not to use God's gifts to build up a self-serving following of us. We don't own God's gifts. We are entrusted with gifts from God to bring Him Glory; its all about God. 'Not everybody who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will get into the kingdom of heaven. Only those who do the will of my Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I’ll tell them, ‘I’ve never known you. Get away from me, you people who do wrong.’ (Matthew 7:21-23). Jesus said to his disciples, "All who want to come after me must say no to themselves, take up their cross, and follow me. All who want to save their lives will lose them. But all who lose their lives because of me will find them (Matthew 16:24-25). The gifts God gives us should be used according to His will and purpose; to build up the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians.12).

Remember God's Love: the universal spiritual gift

"God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life (John 3:16). [His] 'Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away . We know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, what is partial will be brought to an end.(1 Corinthians 13:8-9).
