A question is something asked when doubt or uncertainty about something arises. Questions may also be asked to test someone's knowledge. God invites us to question Him. Questioning God opens up a dialogue with Him when one needs more clarity. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, laymen, prophets, and kings have questioned God. Why question God? The scriptures tells us to ask (Mathew 7:7).
The Conflict In What to Ask God Lies Within Our Intentions
Our questioning God should not stem from wanting more money, power, recognition, or higher status. Are your questions based on worldly desires and wants? We don't have what we ask for because we ask with evil intentions, to waste it on our own cravings (James 4:3). We ought to be asking God to help us get rid of our selfish desires so that we may desire spiritual things.
"What is the source of conflict among you? What is the source of your disputes? Don’t they come from your cravings that are at war in your own lives? You long for something you don’t have, so you commit murder. You are jealous for something you can’t get, so you struggle and fight. You don’t have because you don’t ask. You ask and don’t have because you ask with evil intentions, to waste it on your own cravings (James 4:1-3). Stop collecting treasures for your own benefit on earth, where moth and rust eat them and where thieves break in and steal them. Instead, collect treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moth and rust don’t eat them and where thieves don’t break in and steal them. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Mathew 6:19-21).
Be Humble and Submit To God
Pursue God, not things. Ask God for patience, knowledge, wisdom, love, and understanding; His Fruit. God wants us to enjoy life but not at the expense of others, or obeying Him. He knows what is good for us. "Every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1:17)
"Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door is opened. Who among you will give your children a stone when they ask for bread? Or give them a snake when they ask for fish? If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.
(Mathew 7:7-11).
"Come near to God, and he will come near to you.....(James 4:8)
