Don't Sound The Trumpet When You Give

February 2, 2019

When you give to someone in need, be sincere. Don't sound the trumpet. If you are going to give, let it be from a spirit of compassion. When you sound a trumpet to highlight your good deeds, you are considered a hypocrite. There should only be one motive for giving, which is because you love God and the brethren. Good deeds should be done in secret; without sounding the trumpet for recognition, or pats on the back. True altruism is giving when no one is looking. It is an unselfish concern for the welfare of others without any expectation of reward. When you give do it from a pure heart, then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you (Mathew 6:1-4).
