The Lord's Prayer, What Does It Mean?

November 13, 2018

"Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom and the power and the Glory forever. Amen!

What Does The Lord's Prayer Mean?

It means we must enter into prayer with the understanding that God is our Father. Like children we are to respect, honor, trust and depend on Him. Our earthly fathers don't refuse us or give us less than what we ask, how much more will our Father in heaven give good gifts/ the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. Ask without doubt (Luke 11:11-13). God's Majesty and Power are Heavenly and cannot, nor should they, be compared to anything on Earth. The words in Heaven teach us not to think otherwise. He is the God Who made Heaven, Earth, and all that dwells therein not made by hands (Acts 17:24-25). Hallowed be His name because there is no other name that should be blessed, worshiped, or praised (John 17:3). His Kingdom come to rule us by His Word and Spirit in order that we submit to Him, destroying the Devil's yoke (Psalm 119:105). Only then may His Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Every Christian believer is to carry out the work that he or she is called to do (Romans 12:1-2). Give us today our daily bread knowing that Jesus is the only source of Life, which there is no life without the Vine (Mathew 6:25-34, John 15:1-5). Forgive us our debts, as we forgive also our debtors. Christ's Blood shed on the Cross Pardoned our sins. We will, on purpose, forgive our neighbors by the Grace of God (Psalm 143:2). Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Here the believer is asking God to make him/us strong in this Spiritual Warfare in order that he/we may resist the Devil (Galatians 5:17). Jesus' Kingdom, Power, and Glory are forever. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him. (Romans 10:11-13). Amen! In this we can be sure (2 Corinthians 1:20).
